Sexual abusers manipulate children to keep secrets using bribes, tricks and intimidation. Threats to harm the child or someone he or she loves are powerful motivators for keeping the abuse a secret. Young children are often tricked into believing the abuse is a game or a way of expressing love because they are simply too young to know better.
